Modi reaffirms India's support for Nepal to restore peace and stability during talks with PM Karki

Prime Minister Sushila Karki and her Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, have held a telephone conversation today.

During the telephone conversation that lasted for around 20 minutes, Indian Prime Minister Modi extended heartfelt condolences on the recent tragic loss of lives and reaffirmed India's support for her efforts to restore peace and stability. He also extended warm greetings to her and the people of Nepal on their National Day on Friday.

"Had a warm conversation with Mrs. Sushila Karki, Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. Conveyed heartfelt condolences on the recent tragic loss of lives and reaffirmed India’s steadfast support for her efforts to restore peace and stability. Also, I extended warm greetings to her and the people of Nepal on their National Day tomorrow," Modi mentioned on X following his meeting with Prime Minister Karki.

In response, Prime Minister Karki conveyed her heartfelt greetings and best wishes to Prime Minister Modi on his 75th birthday and appreciated the Indian Prime Minister for his message of solidarity.

Appreciating the Indian Prime Minister for his message of solidarity at this time of crisis, Minister Karki said, "… responding to the call of recent Gen-Z movement, elections will remain topmost priority of the present government, with strong determination for accountable, responsive and corruption-free governance, reflecting the aspiration of the youth," reads the press note issued by the Foreign Ministry. 

This is Karki's first ever bilateral meeting with the head of government of a foreign country following her appointment as the Prime Minister of Nepal.

After this telephone conversation with Modi, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Kari at 1 PM. Similarly, US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R Thompson, will pay a courtesy call on her at 2:30 pm. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Mrs. Sushila Karki held a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi today.

During the conversation, the Indian Prime Minister congratulated the Rt. Hon. Mrs. Sushila Karki on her historic appointment as the first female Prime Minister of Nepal. On the occasion, Prime Minister Shri Modi also expressed heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in the recent youth movement and stated that India stands in solidarity with Nepal during this pivotal moment. The Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi also extended warm wishes on the occasion of the National Day (Constitution Day) of Nepal.

The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Karki conveyed her heartfelt greetings and best wishes to Prime Minister Modi on his 75th birthday and appreciated the Indian Prime Minister for his message of solidarity. She further stated that responding to the call of recent Gen-Z movement, elections will remain topmost priority of the present government, with strong determination for accountable, responsive and corruption-free governance, reflecting the aspiration of the youth. The Indian Prime Minister assured of full support and cooperation as per the priorities of the Government of Nepal.

Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Karki further expressed that the historical and close relationship between Nepal and India will continue to be strengthened by multifaceted people to people ties.

Both Prime Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continue the strong momentum of bilateral cooperation and partnership for the benefit of the peoples of two countries.
