Prime Minister Sushila Karki has assured Chinese Ambassador Chen Song that Nepal remains committed to the One China policy.

Ambassador Chen paid a courtesy call on Karki on Thursday for the first time after she became Prime Minister.

"We are committed to the One China policy. We will not allow any anti-China activities on Nepali soil," Prime Minister Karki told Ambassador Chen during the meeting.

After Karki became Prime Minister, officials of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile began extending congratulations, raising speculations over the interim government's policy toward China. However, Prime Minister Karki has reassured her northern neighbor that the old policy will continue.

"We are ready to cooperate with China on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation projects," Prime Minister Karki told Ambassador Chen. "This government's priority is to hold elections. We expect China's cooperation in the elections as before."

Ambassador Chen also stated that China is ready to provide any necessary assistance to the government.

"We respect the will of the Nepali people," Ambassador Chen said. "We will continue to cooperate in the coming days. As a good neighbor, we are ready to assist the government with whatever it needs."

Similarly, US Ambassador Dean R. Thompson also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Karki shortly after Chen. During the meeting, Karki told the US Ambassador that Nepal is committed to completing the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project on time.

"We are committed to completing the MCC project on time," Prime Minister Karki said. "This government was formed as a result of the Gen-Z movement, and we are committed to human rights and democracy."

She also expressed her expectation of cooperation in the upcoming elections with Ambassador Thompson.

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Karki also had a telephone conversation with her Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi. During the 20-minute-long conversation, Modi reaffirmed India's support in Nepal's efforts to restore peace, reconstruction and stability.

Following the conversation, Modi wrote on X, "… reaffirmed India’s steadfast support for her efforts to restore peace and stability."
