Various nine communist parties including CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) have merged to announce a new political party, 'Nepali Communist Party'.
Maoist Center spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota announced the new party after a full meeting of the Maoist General Convention Organizing Committee convened on Tuesday to approve the unity decision.
The electoral symbol for the new party had already been decided as the "five-cornered star," but the name was pending. "It will be the 'Nepali Communist Party'," Sapkota stated. "The election symbol will be the five-cornered star. Today’s meeting has ratified this."
CPN, CPN (Socialist), Janasamajbadi Party, Nepal, Nepal Socialist Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Maoist Socialist), CPN (Communist) and Deshbhakta Samajbadi Morcha have agreed to merge into a single, new party.
Prachanda urged Janardan Sharma, who recently quit the Maoist Center to announce a new campaign, 'Pragatisheel Abhiyan Nepal,' to reconsider his decision.
