PM Karki expands cabinet for fifth time; member count hits 15

Prime Minister Sushila Karki is expanding her Council of Ministers for the fifth time. Minister Karki is set to appoint Balananda Sharma, a retired Lieutenant General of the Nepal Army, as the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

According to a source at the Prime Minister's Secretariat, Sharma’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 pm today. With this addition, the Karki cabinet will become a 15-member body. The Prime Minister continues to hold the portfolios for the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Water Supply.

Jagdish Kharel: Communication and Information Technology

Sudha Gautam: Health and Population

Bablu Gupta: Youth and Sports

Kumar Ingnam: Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation

Rajendra Singh Bhandari: Labor, Employment and Social Security

Madhav Chaulagain: Forests and Environment

Shraddha Shrestha: Women, Children and Senior Citizens

Balananda Sharma: Foreign Affairs

While the appointment is confirmed, Sharma’s rank in the cabinet is yet to be determined.
