Nepali Congress (NC) has booked a hall at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu for holding the Special General Convention of the party.
The hall has been booked for two days – January 11 and 12 – for convening the Special General Convention, at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu.
Central Working Committee (CWC) member Ajay Siwakoti informed Nepalkhabar that a special convention is being organized—and a venue has already been booked—after the 15th General Convention schedule failed to move forward. According to the timeline set by the Central Committee, ward conventions were supposed to be held yesterday and municipal conventions today, but neither took place.
"The Central Working Committee (CWC) had introduced a schedule to hold the 15th General Convention starting January 10. Under that plan, ward conventions should have been held yesterday and municipal conventions today, but they did not happen," he said. "In accordance with Article 17 (2) of the party statute, a special convention will now be held. We have booked a hall for two days to this end."
According to Siwakoti, the exhibition hall at Bhrikuti Mandap has already been reserved for January 11 and 12.
On October 15, a proposal to call a special general convention had been registered at the Nepali Congress central office in Sanepa, with the signatures of 54 percent of the general convention delegates. According to the party's statute, a special general convention must be organized within three months of the registration of the proposal.
According to Siwakoti, a leader representing the pro-special convention faction, both General Secretaries are preparing to issue a joint statement calling for the special general convention.
On the other hand, President Sher Bahadur Deuba remains firm in his stance against holding a special general convention.
