In an effort to prevent a potential split within Nepali Congress (NC), the rival factions have formed negotiation committees to address escalating internal disputes.
The move comes as General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, who have been pushing for a Special General Convention, announced a four-member team to hold dialogues with the establishment faction led by Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Key developments
The dialogue committee formed by the General Secretaries includes leaders Pradip Paudel, Guru Ghimire, Devraj Chalise, and Madhu Acharya.
On the other hand, President Deuba has tasked Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka and Ramesh Lekhak to lead the dialogue from the establishment side.
Despite the formation of these teams, the dissident group has expressed concerns over a lack of communication from the establishment side.
"We are ready to sit for talks whenever President Deuba's side calls us," committee member Devraj Chalise told Nepalkhabar. "However, we have received no word from them so far. We are prepared to negotiate, provided they are willing to set aside their rigid stance."
The internal rift has centered on demands for a Special General Convention and disagreements over the party's current leadership. While both sides have now officially designated negotiators, the formal dialogue process is yet to begin.
