Balen Shah, a former mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and a senior leader of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), officially filed his nomination for the House of Representatives elections from Jhapa Constituency-5, a while ago.
Accompanied by a large procession of supporters, traditional music, and cultural tableaus, Shah reached the Election Officer's Office in Damak to register his candidacy. His candidacy was proposed by Bhuminanda Baral and seconded by Bhesh Raj Bhattarai.
A massive turnout of RSP cadres greeted Shah at the election office. Widely regarded as a symbol of hope among youth and advocates for good governance, Shah’s move to Jhapa-5 is seen as a strategic step to promote "performance-based politics" over traditional power structures.
