A meeting of the newly elected Central Working Committee (CWC) of Nepali Congress, led by President Gagan Thapa, is set to convene for the first time at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur on Friday.
This marks a significant symbolic move for the Thapa-led faction, following the party's Second Special General Convention held at Bhrikuti Mandap from January 11–14. While the newly elected CWC has met twice since the election, this will be its debut session at the central party headquarters.
The first meeting was held on January 15 at Maxims Banquets and Events in Kupondole and the second meeting was convened at Arpan Banquet, New Baneshwar on January 17, immediately after the election Commission granted official recognition to the new CWC on January 16.
According to party spokesperson Devraj Chalise, Friday’s meeting, which is scheduled for 1 pm, will focus heavily on upcoming electoral strategies. Key agenda items of the meeting include manifesto drafting, election mobilization, sub-committee formation and prime ministerial candidacy. The CWC meeting is expected to formally propose President Gagan Thapa as the party’s candidate for Prime Minister.
The shift to Sanepa comes on the heels of a favorable development at the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, the court declined to issue an interim order in a writ petition filed by the faction led by outgoing President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who had challenged the legitimacy of the new leadership.
With the court's refusal to halt the new CWC’s activities, President Thapa is moving forward with full-scale operations from the central office, signaling a firm grip on the party's administrative and political machinery.
