Nepal's journey to the Super 8 has ended after it suffered a third consecutive defeat in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup underway in India and Sri Lanka.
West Indies defeated Nepal by 9 wickets in their third match of the World Cup held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. With the win, West Indies has become the first team to advance into the Super 8 and Nepal has been eliminated from the ongoing World Cup.
Chasing the 134-run target set by Nepal, West Indies reached it in 15.2 overs losing 1 wicket.
Captain Shai Hope topped the score with 61 runs including 5 fours and 3 sixes off 44 balls. Similarly, Shimron Hetmyer secured 46 runs while Brandon King contributed 22 runs.
On the bowling side, none of the batsmen could take wickets of West Indies except Nandan Yadav. Yadav took 1 wicket giving away 24 runs.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, Nepal notched up 133 runs losing 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Dipendra Singh Airee topped the score with 58 runs including 3 fours and 3 sixes off 47 deliveries followed by Sompal Kami with 26 runs while Lokesh Bam made 13 runs. Similarly, Gulsan Jha and Aasif Sheikh contributed 11 runs, each. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.
In reply, Jason Holder grabbed the highest 4 wickets while Akeal Hosein, Matthew Forde, Shamar Joseph and Roston Chase took with 1 wicket each.
Nepal will now play Scotland in its final group stage match on Tuesday. The match will start at 7:15 pm according to the Nepali time.
