The Election Commission (EC) has issued a 64-point directive to all political parties regarding the House of Representatives elections.
The Election Commission shared this information during a press conference on Sunday. Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari stated that the directives were issued to ensure that parties and candidates fully comply with the election code of conduct.
For the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, the Commission has allocated a 15-day period for election campaigning.
According to the election schedule, political parties and candidates are permitted to campaign from midnight on February 15 until midnight on March 2. During this period, provisions have been made to allow rallies, mass meetings, corner meetings, and the promotion of materials through the media.
However, Bhandari noted that the "silent period" will begin after midnight on March 2, during which no form of campaigning or even "brainstorming" sessions will be permitted.
The Commission warned that those who violate the code of conduct could face actions ranging from being asked for a formal explanation and fines to the cancellation of their candidacy. "If a violation of the code of conduct is established, the candidacy may be revoked, and the Commission may decide to bar the individual from participating in any political competition for up to six years," Commissioner Bhandari said.
