With the counting of votes under the proportional representation (PR) system for the House of Representatives (HoR) election, which took place on March 5, is inching toward a conclusion, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is leading with 5,148,217 votes out of 10,769 543 votes counted.
Nepali Congress has garnered 1,754,395 votes, while CPN (UML) has received 1,451,956 votes. Nepali Communist Party has 809,071 votes, Shram Sanskriti Party has 385,682 votes, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party has 330,082 votes.
Other parties have not managed to meet the required threshold of three percent of the total valid votes cast under the PR system as per the prevailing law.
With the recent completion of vote counting in Gorkha 1 and Ilam 1, the overall counting for proportional representation is nearly complete, said Kul Bahadur GC, Assistant Spokesperson of the Election Commission.
He noted that the process of gathering details from the relevant election officer's office to the commission is still in progress following the completion of the counting.
One the vote counting for proportional representation is over, the commission has initiated the groundwork to determine the allocation of seats for political parties under this system. Reports indicate that this process is expected to wrap up in a few days.
Under the FPTP category, RSP has already bagged the highest 125 HoR seats followed by NC with 18 while UML and NCP and Shram Sastrikriti Party (SSP) have won 9, 7 and 3 seats, respectively. Likewise, RPP and independent candidate have achieved one seat each.
