Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has reportedly decided not to appoint lawmakers elected through the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system as ministers in the upcoming government.
According to high-placed party sources, top leadership has 'agreed in principle' to prioritize directly elected representatives for cabinet positions. This move is seen as an effort to ensure accountability and performance-driven governance.
RSP, which secured a total of 182 seats in the House of Representatives (125 direct and 57 proportional), is preparing to pick its ministerial candidates based on subject-matter expertise. The party leadership intends to appoint individuals who can deliver tangible results in key sectors.
The party’s directly elected lawmakers include experts in various fields, such as education and health, infrastructure and economy, foreign Affairs and law.
While PR list also contains several experts, the party appears firm on its strategy to utilize directly elected members for the executive sector.
The report highlights a significant political shift, noting an agreement to appoint Balendra Shah (Balen) as the Prime Minister.
The Election Commission has already issued certificates to the PR lawmakers. According to the Parliament Secretariat, swearing-in ceremony for lawmakers is scheduled for March 26 and the parliament session will commence on March 29.
