The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that 82,100 Nepali citizens from the Middle East have registered their details in the online registration system of the Department of Consular Services so far.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar on Friday, Chhetri said that about 6,000 of those registered in the online registration system initially informed that they were unsafe. However, he claims that the number of those feeling unsafe has decreased significantly in recent days.
Amid escalating tensions between Israel, the US, and Iran, Chhetri reported that the ministry’s emergency room has received 170 inquiries from the Middle East, including 78 direct phone calls. According to Chhetri, the majority of these contacts were specifically seeking information regarding work permits.
Chhetri added that the ministry is actively monitoring the status of distressed Nepalis through its 10 diplomatic missions and is coordinating necessary assistance. During the briefing, he confirmed that no Nepali citizens are currently in transit abroad and noted that 52 Hajj pilgrims have successfully returned home from Jeddah.
Spokesperson Chhetri said that the government is serious about the safety of Nepali citizens in the Middle East and is ready to rescue them if necessary.
