Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has issued a stern warning against unauthorized activities within the party, stating that breaches of party discipline will no longer be tolerated.
Speaking at a New Year’s greeting exchange program on Tuesday, Thapa expressed dissatisfaction with recent parallel activities. His remarks appeared directed at former Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka, who has reportedly continued to issue statements in that capacity. Thapa emphasized that while he remains open to collaboration, "unauthorized activities" outside the party’s official channels have a limit.
"I need everyone's cooperation. If you can help, please do; if not, do not disturb the process," Thapa said. "There is a limit to unauthorized activities outside the party office, and exceeding that limit is unacceptable."
Thapa urged senior leaders to stop internal bickering and allow the party to move forward. He noted that his immediate priorities include organizing the party convention, preparing for upcoming elections, and strengthening NC’s role as a formidable opposition.
Furthermore, the President cautioned colleagues not to mistake his flexibility for weakness. He stressed that while he is committed to a culture of dialogue and inclusion, he is ultimately bound by the party’s constitution and will enforce discipline if necessary.
Regarding the national political landscape, Thapa clarified that NC will play a constructive role as the main opposition. He pledged the party's support for the government’s efforts toward good governance and lawful initiatives, while also focusing on coordinating effectively with provincial and local governments.
