In a move to modernize public service and revitalize the national postal system, the District Administration Office (DAO) Dadeldhura has officially launched the ‘Government Courier Service,’ delivering passports directly to citizens' doorsteps.
The initiative follows a broader government reform plan where 27 out of 100 governance points focus on utilizing the post office to deliver essential documents, including licenses and citizenship certificates.
According to Janak Raj Pant, Nayab Subba of the Passport Branch, the office has already dispatched an initial batch of 75 passports through the postal network. An additional 139 passports processed via online forms were handed over to the District Post Office last month for delivery.
Despite maintaining a massive infrastructure of 17,000 employees and over 3,900 service points across 77 districts, Nepal’s postal service had long been considered underutilized in the digital age.
"Service recipients are seeing significant savings in both time and money," said Dijaya Raj Ojha, Acting Postal Officer. "Crucially, this eliminates the need for residents in remote areas to travel repeatedly or stand in long queues at administration offices."
The initiative aims to transform the aging postal network into a modernized logistics arm, delivering government services directly to the public.
