India has firmly stated that there is no room for third-party involvement in its bilateral matters with Nepal. This reaction follows Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah's recent remarks about involving the UK in the Nepal-India border dispute. During a regular press briefing, India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson reiterated that the issue must be handled strictly between the two nations.
Journalists had sought India's response to the Nepali Prime Minister's recent statement about involving China and the UK on the territorilal disputes between Nepal and India.
"We have heard the statements made by the Nepali Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the India-Nepal border. About 98 percent of the India-Nepal border has been demarcated. There is a problem in some parts, this situation has arisen due to the change in the flow of the Gandak River," said spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
He further said, "In addition, there are cases of cross-border occupation and encroachment on no-man's land in the demarcated part of the border. The demarcation of which is being done jointly. We have established a bilateral mechanism to resolve all border-related issues. It is important for all parties to be clear that no third party has a role in any bilateral issues between India and Nepal."
He also said that Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane will hold a high-level meeting with Indian authorities and leaders.
