The ruling coalition is making preparations to expand the cabinet in Province 1 after the coalition partner CPN (Maoist Center) decided to join the government.

The Maoist Center is nominating lawmakers Jeevan Acharya and Durga Chapagain as minsters to the cabinet, sources have said. However, their ministerial portfolios have not yet been made public.

Acharya is the son-in-law of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Similarly, CPN (UML) is nominating Buddhi Kumar Raj Bhandari as a minister to the cabinet.

Earlier, the Maoist Center, who propped up the UML parliamentary party (PP) leader Hikmat Kumar Karki as the Chief Minister of the province, had decided not to join the government saying that there was not agreement to lead the government on a rotational basis.

Ganesh Upreti who had been contributing to the party for a long time was sidelined after Acharya was able to win the trust of party Chairman Prachanda.

Chief Minster Karki had formed a small government on Monday itself.

Karki has inducted UML lawmaker Til Kumar Nembang, Bhakti Prasad Sitaula of Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Nirmala Limbu of Janata Samajbadi Party in his cabinet
