The coalition government in Bagmati Province has officially collapsed after CPN (UML) formally withdrew its support from the provincial government led by Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya.
The move follows strategic realignments at the federal level aimed at forming a new alliance between CPN (UML) and Nepali Communist Party across all seven provinces.
UML parliamentary party leader Jagannath Thapaliya, alongside party representatives, submitted a letter of withdrawal to Bagmati Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota. Citing decisions taken by the party's central leadership and current political developments under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, UML officially severed its ties with the coalition government formed on August 5, 2025.
Meanwhile, all six incumbent UML ministers submitted a joint resignation letter addressed to Chief Minister Baniya.
Chief Minister Baniya, who is also the Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader, is expected to formally process the resignations upon returning from his trip to Chitwan. With the withdrawal of UML's support, the provincial administration has now fallen into a minority, paving the way for a new government.
