Nepali Congress (NC) is making preparations to field lawmaker Ishwari Neupane for the post of Speaker.
Party president and parliamentary party (PP) leader Sher Bahadur Deuba is holding a meeting to this effect.
President Deuba, General Secretary duo Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak are taking part in the meeting.
“Lawmaker Ishwari Nepane is almost certain to become a candidate for the post of Speaker. The meeting chaired by Deuba will take an official decision on it,” an NC leader told Nepalkhabar.
Now Ishwari will contest the elections with CPN (UML) candidate Devraj Gimire for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Neupane has shared that her party is holding talks to field her for the Speaker’s post.
“The party is holding talks to nominate me for the post of Speaker. The PP meeting will take a final call on it. I will not back off if the party takes a decision to this effect.
Neupane, an NC lawmaker under the proportional representation category, is considered close to the establishment.
