Cable Television entrepreneurs, Media Hub, the license holder to broadcast World Cup, and television channels have inked a deal to collect additional Rs 500 per setup box for World Cup football.
As per the deal inked, private Himalayan Television has received the permission to broadcast the World Cup matches. Kantipur and Himalayan TV had expressed their interest in broadcasting.
Media Hub, that has received the broadcasting license with the provision of territory lock from the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), has said that a decision has been taken to collect additional fee from consumers.
According to Som Dhital, the executive director of Media Hub, the company has invested Rs 400 million to obtain the license from FIFA.
“Around 700,000 to 800,000 customers will have to pay additional fee. The feel will be collected from all the setup boxes including that of Net TV, clear TV, Disc Home, Vianet,” said Dhital.
Similarly the discussions are underway with Nepal Telecom and Ncell to broadcast World Cup matches even through OTV platform. But the decision is yet to be taken.
The one who receives the permission will have to invest Rs 200 million to Rs 220 million.
Dhital himself is the chairman of the Advertising Association of Nepal. According to him, around Rs 100 million will be collected from the advertisement itself this year.
Rs 400 million will be raised if Rs 500 each is taken from 800,000 customers.
According to the estimates, the total income will reach up to 720 million including Rs 220 million from telecom companies, 400 million from 800,000 customers and Rs 100 million from advertising.
