Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma is on a visit to India.
Minister Sharma has reached Delhi to create an environment conducive for the possible upcoming visit of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, it is learnt.
Minister Sharma met with her Indian counterpart S Jaishankar on Wednesday. Sharma in the meeting requested the Indian side to reduce the tariff for making telephone calls from Nepal.
She made this request during a meeting with her Indian counterpart Jaishankar in New Delhi today.
"There is a huge disparity in telephone rates between Nepal and India, Nepalis living in India complain of excessive charges when calling home", she said, "I see that the terminal charges between the two countries should be reviewed and services should be provided at affordable tariff rates."
Minister Sharma drew attention to the fact that Indian television channels are easily broadcast in Nepal, but it is difficult for Nepali channels to be broadcast in India.
"Since there is a large number of Nepali speakers in India, I would like to request the Indian authority to make an environment for easy broadcasting of Nepali channels," Minister Sharma said.
She further said that Nepal, a country rich in natural beauty and culture, is a suitable place for filming.
"In this context, I believe that the honorable minister will help Indian investors to build a state-of-the-art cinematography studio in Nepal," she added.
