It appears that the by-election of Tanahun-1 is going to be interesting. Nepali Congress has decided to field Govinda Bhattarai as a candidate in this constituency.
Against this backdrop, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is planning to pick renowned people with a high profile as a candidate in this constituency.
According to RSP sources, Economist Dr Swarnim Wagle is on the priority list among potential candidates.
Similarly, some RSP leaders of RSP have said that the name of Mahanayak Rajesh Hamal is also under discussion.
However, the RSP has not finalized the candidate so far. Swarnim is busy studying the views of the voters of Tanahun 1, so the decision will take some time. Swarnim is currently on a field visit.
RSP has decided to contest elections alone in Tanuhan 1, Chitwan 2 and Bara 2. RSP Chairman Lamichhane is himself contesting the by-election in Chitwan 2.
More than half a dozen MPs of RSP including Wagle, Hamal and Shishir Khanal are in dialogue with the voters here in this constitueny.
