CPN (Maoist Center) that cast votes in favor of Koshi Province in the provincial meeting has expressed solidarity for rectifying the name.
On March 1, Maoist Center had voted in favor of Koshi Province on the basis of geography.
A month after Province 1 adopted ‘Koshi’ as its official name, the Maoist Center has now stood in favor of correcting the name following the demonstrations raised by pro-identity groups.
Issuing a press note on Saturday, Maoist Center Province Committee expressed its solidarity with the peaceful demand raised by the pro-identity groups that Province 1 should be renamed.
“We express our support and solidarity with the peaceful demands raised by pro-identity groups for renaming Koshi Province,” reads the press note issued by party chairman Harka Nembang and Secretary Ganesh Upreti.
Similarly, Janata Samajbadi Party has urged the government to address the demands of the agitating groups by renaming Koshi Province at the earliest.
“It is a negligence on the part of the government to look down upon the demands and the peaceful demonstration,” said a press note issued by JSP, “The nationality will be strengthened further when the identities of the people and their political basis are established.”
Meanwhile, the Maoist Center Province Committee has urged the government to hold dialogues with the agitating groups and address their demands at the earliest.
