Devotees marked the Chhath festival -- a festival of social harmony and unity -- by offering arghya to the setting sun on Sunday.

The devotees ended their first day of fasting by offering prayers to the setting sun from the 520 ghats constructed at the Gaurighat area in Kathmandu.

Gaurighat, where the largest number of devotees are gathering for Chhath Puja in Kathmandu, is beautifully decked with pandals, twinkling lights and banana plants.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari also reached the Gaurighat area and worshiped Chhathi Mata today.

Chhath is being celebrated with gusto at Kamalpokhari, Gaurighat in Kathmandu and in the lakes and ponds of Bhaktapur.
