Bibek Dahal, who had been serving a jail term in Saudi Arabia after being convicted of murder, has been given the death penalty.
According to the Nepali Embassy in Riyadh, the Abu Hadriyah Jail Administration in Jubail on October 23 implemented the death sentence issued for Dahal.
Originally from Basaha-7, Udayapur, Dahal had been convicted of killing his relative Rajendra Bista of Morang on February 2, 2007.
The Saudi government gave Dahal the death penalty despite repeated requests from the Nepal government. His body was cremated in Saudi Arabia itself without the consent of his family members in Nepal and this information was given to the Nepali Embassy only 48 hours after the dead body was cremated.
Nepali Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Navaraj Subedi, informed that the Saudi government implemented the death penalty without informing the embassy. "We were hopeful that Dahal would get clemency but we are shocked to hear that the death penalty was implemented even that is without informing the embassy," said Subedi.
Dahal had murdered his relative Rajendra Bista of Morang on February 2, 2007. A Sudanese citizen had been critically injured in the incident. The court had issued the death sentence to Dahal saying that Bista's murder was intentional. The decision issued by the lower court had been upheld by the criminal court and Supreme Court.
Dahal and Bista had gone to Saudi Arabia in 2006 and they along with a Sudanese citizen used to look after the camels in the desert.
Dahal had attacked Bista and the Sudanese while they were sleeping. Bista died on the spot while the Sudanese sustained critical injuries to his eyes, according to the embassy.
