482 prisoners’ sentence waived; 19 including Budha granted amnesty

The government has waived the remaining sentences of 482 prisoners including senior citizens.

President Ram Chandra Paudel has waived their punishment according to the decision of the Council of Ministers on May 26 and 28.

On the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, a total of 482 prisoners, including  including Ramesh Thalang alias Hem Bahadur Thalang (Limbu) and seven seven including senior citizen Uday Narayan Giri, have been pardoned by the President, effective from Republic Day (May 29).

The President has waived the sentence on the occasion of Republic Day in accordance with Article 276 of the Constitution, Section 37 of the Criminal Offenses (Sentencing and Execution) Act, 2074 and Section 12 of the Senior Citizens Act, 2063.

Similarly, President Paudel has granted amnesty to 19 people, including Top Bahadur Budha, who have been sentenced to life imprisonment by different courts on different dates, according to the recommendations of the meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 26 and 28.

Paudel has pardoned their punishment on the occasion of Republic Day.
