Women’s nat'l cricket team bidden adieu (with photos)

The Nepal women’s national cricket team that is going to play ICC Women's T20 World Cup has been bidden adieu.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Wednesday bade a farewell to the team amidst a program.

“We have been practicing matches of late. Prior to World Cup Qualifiers, we played two matches. The batting coach has also arrived. We are hopeful of good results,” said Captain Rubina Chhetri, “We are working on the batting order, too, as per the instruction of the batting coach.”

"We all are serious about our preparations since the Asia Region Qualifier will determine our future course," said all-rounder Sita Rana, "five practice matches will be held prior to the series."

Nepal will play home team Malaysia, Kuwait and Hong Kong before T20I series.

As per the schedule, Nepal will take on Hong Kong on August 22, Kuwait on August 23 and Malaysia on August 25. Similarly, it will play a practice match with Thailand on August 28.

Asia Region Qualifier will begin from August 31 to September 9.

Group A has home teams Malaysia, Bahrain, Bhutan, Qatar and UAE, alongside Nepal. Similarly, Group B has China, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Thailand and Myanmar.

Nepal will take on host Malaysia on August 31, play Bahrain on September 1, Bhutan on September 3, Qatar on September 4, and UAE on September 6.

Top two teams from each group will book berth in the semifinals. The Semifinal match will take place on September 8 and the final on September 9.

Top two teams who reach the final will be allowed to play global qualifier. A 14-member team led by Captain Rubina Chhetri has already been announced.
