The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police has taken a statement from former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on the Lalita Niwas land embezzlement case.

A CIB team took statements from Nepal, the chairman of the ruling coalition party CPN (Unified Socialist), at his residence in Koteshwar.

On Sunday night, the CIB also went to the residence of former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai in Tokha and took his statement.

CIB Spokesperson SP Nawaraj Adhikari said that they went to both former Prime Ministers’ residences and took their statements on Lalita Niwas.

Earlier, the ruling coalition meeting held on August 14 had agreed to proceed with this case without taking statements from both the former prime ministers.

However, following pressure from all sides, the CIB took a statement from both the former prime ministers on Sunday.

The CIB was preparing to send the file of Lalita Niwas to the district attorney office on Sunday itself. But it did not send the file as it had to take statements from the two former prime ministers.

Adhikari has said the final preparations are being made to send the file to the public prosecutor today.
