Govt to guarantee security of investment in energy sector: DPM Shrestha

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha today said the government would guarantee the security of big investments in the energy sector.

The government would provide the security of Rs 1300 billion in the energy sector, he said in a meeting with the office bearers of the Independent Power Producers' Association-Nepal (IPPAN) here in the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar.

Now, the government's focus is on ensuring good governance and guaranteeing security of citizens of all levels, said the minister while thanking the IPPAN for launching a campaign of good governance.

On the occasion, stating that the construction of electricity projects has been affected by protests by the local people, the IPPAN President Ganesh Karki urged the minister to manage the setting up of security posts in the project sites. He also asked the Ministry to facilitate in the transport of explosives for the construction work.

Meanwhile, a meeting has been held between the office bearers of the IPPAN and the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA). On the occasion, the NIA Chairperson Surya Prasad Silwal said suggestion from the IPPAN would be considered in issuing the new insurance policy, rules and directives. (RSS)
