Voting is underway to elect the new leadership of CPN (UML) Bagmati Province Committee.

Votes are being cast through an electronic voting machine at the central party office in Chyasal, Lalitpur.

Voting began on Friday after efforts to unanimously elect the leadership failed. The candidates are contesting elections by forming separate panels.

Krishna Prasad Dahal of Makawanpur and Kailash Dhungel of Ramechhap are vying for the post of chairman.

A 240-member working committee will be elected for the Bagmati Province Committee, including a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and two deputy secretaries.

Dhungel, who is in the race for the chairman, has placed Dawa Dorje Lama as the vice president in the panel. Similarly, Hasta Pandit is contesting for the post of secretary from Dhungel's panel.
