Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, has resigned from the post today.

In today's meeting of Koshi Province Assembly, CM Karki announced his resignation. He had registered a proposal for vote of confidence at Koshi Province Assembly secretariat on October 4 as per Article 168 (3) of the constitution.

However, he announced resignation from the post after seeing no possibility of getting vote of confidence in today's meeting.

Expressing commitment that the CPN (UML) would always stand for the supremacy of the constitution, he mentioned that he resigned from the post as the people of Koshi Province have not wanted election.

Mid-term election in the province is certain if the present context and complexities are ignored, mentioned CM Karki, adding consensus, collaboration and unity among political parties is necessary to prevent mid-term election and form a stable government.

He stressed that forming a consensus government was best alternative as none of the political parties in Koshi Province Assembly had clear majority.

CM Karki had taken oath of office and secrecy on September 8. There are 29 members of the Nepali Congress, 40 of the CPN (UML) including Deputy-Speaker, 13 of the CPN (Maoist Centre), four of CPN (Unified Socialist), six of Rastriya Prajatantra Party and one of Janata samajbadi Party in Koshi Province Assembly.
