Home Minister Shrestha flies to China to participate in BRI conference

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has left for China, leading a seven-member team to participate in the BRI conference on Monday.

Shrestha left for China today to participate in the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

The policy and progress on Green Development will be discussed at the third BRF in Beijing on Tuesday and Wednesday. Shrestha will deliver a 'key note speech' in the event, according to his secretariat.

China's Minister for Public Safety and Secretary of Communist Party of China, Wang Xiaohong and Director General of Department of Ecology and Environment of Sichuan Province Yu Weian sent separate invitations to Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal to participate in the conference. 

Wang is a member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China. It is said that talks will be held between Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha and Wang on issues related to bilateral cooperations and relations.

On the evening of the first day of the conference, Shrestha will attend the dinner hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Heads of states and heads of government of nearly three dozen countries are said to be participating in the conference.

China hosted the first BRF in 2017 and the second in 2019. The conference was organized to review the implementation and progress of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

BRI is an important international project of Chinese initiative to contribute to sustainable development including roads, development of eastern civilization, cooperation and brotherhood between countries.

Joint Secretary and Spokesperson at the Ministry of Home Affairs Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amrit Bahadur Rai, Head of Disaster and Risk Reduction Authority Anil Pokharel among others are participating in the visiting team.
