Supreme Court Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla has been elected as the chairperson of the Judges' Society, Nepal, an organization of incumbent Justices.
A gathering of judges held in Kathmandu elected her to the post on Tuesday.
Among others elected are SC justice Til Prasad Shrestha (Vice-Chair), high court justice Tek Narayan Kunwar (General Secretary), district court judge Shishir Raj Dhakal (Secretary) and former justice of high court Balendra Rupakheti (treasurer).
The elected members are high court justice Tej Narayan Singh Rai, high court justice Rajeswor Tiwari, former justice of high court Shankhar Prasad Poudel and district court justice Durga Khadka.
A tradition has it that Senior Justice is normally appointed as the chairperson of the Judges' Society. Earlier, Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada himself was the chairperson of the Society.
The tenure of the committee is of two years.
