After a long wait and hiatus, Korala checkpoint of Upper Mustang has come into operation officially from Monday.

Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhan Raj Acharya informed that the opening of the border was announced in the presence of Mustang federal MP Yogesh Gauchan, Gandaki Provincial Assembly MPs Namdu Gurung and Bikal Sherchan, chairpersons of Lomanthang Rural Municipality and Loghekar Damodarkund Rural Municipality and the mayor of Shigatse from the Chinese side.

Fireworks were set off during the opening ceremony and aid materials were handed over by the Chinese side to the two rural municipalities of Upper Mustang, Lomanthang and Loghekar.

The speakers who spoke in the program emphasized that the border should be operated in a sustainable manner. During Prime Minister Prachanda's visit to China in the last week of September, it was agreed to open the Nepal-China border, Korala.

Despite the operation of the border point, no infrastructure has been built on the Nepal side while China has built magnificent structures on its side.

A dry port has been constructed at Liji, 12 km from Pillar No. 24 of the border.

China has targeted trade in South Asia through this short and strategically important route connecting India and China. Along with the opening of the border, entry to Tibet has also been opened for residents of Upper Mustang based on their identity cards.
