Tiktok has written a letter to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) after the Nepal government decided to shut down the social media platform.
Tiktok wrote a letter to the Authority mentioning that the video materials that violate the local laws have been removed as per the agreements reached earlier with representatives of various government agencies of Nepal.
Mentioning that user safety is a priority, Tiktok has given access to the government to remove content that violates Nepal's domestic laws, said Ferdous Mottakin, the head of TikTok's Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia. He has also made it clear that he is ready to address any further concerns of the government.
In the letter, Tiktok mentions that it removed 2.98 million videos in Nepal between October 2022 to June 2023 for violating the Community Guidelines.
In addition, it reveals that digital services have also been registered as taxpayers on August 29.
