China names Chen Song as its next ambassador to Nepal

Chen Song has been named new Chinese ambassador to Nepal.

At least two diplomatic sources confirmed that Chen is going to be China's next ambassador to Kathmandu.

Chen is presently one of five deputy director generals of the Department of Asian Affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry. He oversees South Asian affairs.

An official at Nepal's Foreign Ministry also said that they are also aware of China's decision to nominate new ambassador.

"However, the Chinese side is yet to communicate to us about the decision, officially," the official told Nepalkhabar on Wednesday.

China's decision to nominate new ambassador comes a month after then Ambassador Hou Yanqi returned to Beijing after completing her four-year tenure. Hou has been named China's new ambassador to ASEAN headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia.

According to sources, China will announce its new ambassadors to South Asian countries India and Bangladesh very soon.

Earlier last month, China's Ambassador to India Sun Weidong returned to Beijing and has been appointed the country's deputy foreign minister. Likewise, Li Jiming, China's ambassador to Dhaka also returned home completing his tenure.
