Japan have inflicted a 2-1-defeat on the four-time world cup champions Geormany in a group stage match held on Wednesday evening.
It is a historic win as the Asian power house stunned Germany in the second half. Japan had a flying start in the Qatar World Cup by defeating four-time world champions Germany.
Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano scored for Japan's win. İlkay Gündoğan scored a goal for Germany. In the 33rd minute of the game, İlkay Gündoğan scored a goal cashing in on the penalty and gave Germany a lead.
Germany was awarded a penalty after a foul committed by Japan's goalkeeper in the penalty area -- an opportuntiy that Gündoğan did not miss to capitalize on.
In the 75th minute of the game, substitute player Ritsu Doan scored a goal bringing the match to a tie.
Doan entered the field in the 71st minute to substitute Ao Tanaka. In the 83rd minute of the game, Takuma scored a goal, giving Japan a 2-1 lead.
In the 2018 World Cup, Germany was eliminated from the group stage match when Japan reached the last 16.
Similarly, when Germany won the World Cup in 2014, Japan had been eliminated from the group stage itself.
