Nepali Congress (NC) leader Durlav Thapa has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Bhaktapur constituency-2.
According to vote count results unveiled by Election Officer Loknath Parajuli on Thursday morning, Thapa defeated his closest rival Mahesh Basnet of CPN-UML by a margin of 957 votes.
Thapa of the Democratic-Left Alliance garnered 24,239 votes while Basnet received 23,282 votes.
Speaking during a victory rally organized at Shankhadhar Chowk this morning, Thapa said he will focus on the physical and economic development of Bhaktapur district in collaboration with the other political parties.
“Bhaktapur people have voted for me with trust hoping for the better infrastructure and economic development of the district. Now, my focus will be to expedite these works in collaboration with the local people and other political parties,” said Thapa.
Similarly, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party candidate Anuradha Thapa Magar obtained 7,127 votes.
Likewise, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Sajan BK got 4,098 while Mohan KC of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) got 2,569 votes.
Of the total 63,842 votes cast in the elections on Sunday (November 20) 61,791 votes were declared valid while 2,051 votes were invalid.
The voter turnout in the elections stood at 69.4 percent. There were 91,911 voters in Bhaktapur constituency-2.
Similarly, Prem Suwal, the leader of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP), has won the elections in Bhaktapur constituency-1 with a huge margin of votes.
Suwal defeated CPN-UML's Nabaraj Gelal by 30,800 votes to clinch a seat in the HoR. Suwal garnered 42,761 votes while his contender Gelal, who is placed second, received 11,968 votes.
Similarly, Sunil Gothe of CPN (Maoist Center) got 5,283 votes.
