TikTok, a short video social platform that has been gaining popularity, of late, has requested the Nepal government to formally remove the ban.
Sending a letter to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the representatives of TikTok have expressed their commitments in five areas.
In the letter addressed to the Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, the social network has expressed the following commitments:
1. We are committed to comply with the legal process of Nepal.
2. We provide access to live streaming and a dedicated focal point to address concerns with its content.
3. We will have more Nepali-speaking sources to increase the checking and regulation of the content to be placed on TikTok.
4. We will conduct a nationwide Internet safety and digital education campaign.
5. We will digitize academic content to improve academic activities for high school and college students.
TikTok in the letter said it will pay special attention to the security of its users and its platform. For this, the company has made a global framework "Community Guideline" and will implement it in the letter and spirit.
The Council of Ministers meeting held on November 13 decided to shut down Tiktok stating it disrupted social harmony.
