A high-level probe commission formed to investigate the 61-kg gold smuggling case has recommended to file a case against former Speaker and CPN (Maoist Center) Vice Chairman Krishna Bahadur Mahara.
According to a source at the Home Ministry, the Commission led by former Justice Dilli Raj Charya recommended to file the case against Mahara.
The Commission. earlier, had also recorded statements from Mahara. His son Rahul Mahara is currently serving a jail-term on the charge of smuggling gold concealed in e-cigarettes.
Receiving the report on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane expressed commitments that he would implement the recommendation mentioned in the report in letter and spirit.
Lamichhane also alleged that the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has committed serious mistakes while investigating the gold smuggling case.
