The government decided to appoint Additional Inspector General of Police Shyam Lal Gyawali as the chief of Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Friday.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Singha Durbar tody picked AIG Gyawali as the new CIB chief on the recommendation of the Home Ministry.
Outgoing CIB chief AIG Kiran Bajracharya was transferred to the Nepal Police HQ after he was drawn into controversy over the gold smuggling case.
Minister for Communication and Information Technology and Spokesperson Rekha Sharma said Bajracharya has been transferred to the Nepal Police HQ.
“The government has appointed AIG Shyam Lal Gyawali as the CIB head concluding that his appointment would facilitate the implementation of the report of the gold smuggling case,” said Minister Sharma, “The transfer of AIG Bajracharya is neither penalty nor reward. This is the regular work of the government.”
Gyawali earlier was working in the Operations Department of Nepali Police HQ. Gyawali and Bajracharya are the batch mates of incumbent IGP Basanta Kunwar.
When Gyawali was the Kathmandu Valley Police Office chief, the legal process had been initiated against the case of fake refugees.
Gyawali and other police officers were also transferred after the second phase of the investigation into this case started.
