Trishuli taxi plunge kills five; all identified

Security personnel retrieving the bodies from the accident site where a taxi plunged into the Trishuli River in Chitwan on Saturday morning.

Five people died and one went missing after a taxi veered off the road and plunged into the Trishuli River on Saturday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Junkiri Rokaya, 70, her eldest daughter Harimaya Rokaya, 41, her son-in-law Arjun Sirmal, 35, who was driving the taxi, his wife or Junkiri's daughter Anjana, 28, and Harimaya's son Aagaman Rokaya, 9, of Gorkha Municipality-7, according to Bishnu Prasad Shrestha, the ward chairman of Gorkha Municipality-7.

A total of six people were traveling in the taxi. Five of them died on the spot while one is still missing. The missing one is 18-year-old Dibash Rokaya, the son of Shankar Rokaya, who was consigned to flames at Pashupati Aryaghat. Police said they searching for missing Dibash.

They were heading home in the ill-fated taxi, Ba 2 Jha 4196 after performing the funeral rites of Shankar Rokaya, the son of 70-year-old Junkiri Royaka at Pashupati Aryaghat.

The taxi went out of control and fell into the Trishuli River at Simaldhara in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-5, Chitwan, this morning, said the police.

The accident took place one kilometer before Muglin, said the Area Police Office, Muglin.
