Captain Manish Ratna Shakya, who sustained injuries in the Saurya Airlines plane crash, has been shifted to a normal ward from Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
According to Prof. Dr. Mina Thapa, Captain Shakya, the only survivor of the plane crash, was removed to a normal ward this morning.
The health condition of Shakya has improved significantly, she said.
“Captain Shakya’s health condition has improved significantly,” Dr. Thapa told Nepalkhabar, “He has been shifted to a normal ward from the ICU.”
Shakya had been rushed to an emergency ward of KMC Hospital immediately after rescue. He sustained injuries to his eye and was able to speak.
The doctor had recommended him for backbone surgery. However, the operation of his backbone surgery is yet to be done.
Shakya revealed to the doctors that the aircraft went out of his control almost instantly after reaching an elevation of 100 meters after take-off.
“The investigation into the plane crash has already begun. We should not inquiry many questions since captain Shakya is under treatment,” said the doctor.
The Saurya Airlines aircraft, with the call sign 9N-AME, crashed into a ditch on the east of the runway 02 at 11:11 am on Wednesday shortly after it took off, killing 18 out of 19 people on board.
The ill-fated plane was flying to Pokhara from Kathmandu for a regular technical test when the accident took place. All the deceased are the staff members of the company.
Lone survivor Captain Shakya was rushed to the hospital within 23 minutes of the accident.
