Counting of poor households in Kathmandu metropolis begins

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has begun counting poor households in the metropolis starting today (Sunday).

The metropolis has started counting the number of low-income family households for the implementation of the government welfare scheme.

Kathmandu metropolis had trained 26 enumerators from March 21 to March 25.

This is the last local unit for the counting of poor households, according to Krishna Prasad Sapkota, the joint secretary at the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation.

The government has already distributed the identity cards to low-income households in 49 districts.

The government is making preparations to distribute identity cards in 15 districts after completing the counting. Similarly, the counting of low-income has finished in 13 countries.

This government welfare scheme had started in Nepal since 2070 BS, with the counting of 23 low-income households.

According to the record maintained by the metropolis, there are 238, 966 households in Kathmandu metropolis.

Officials have been deployed in such a way that one enumerator will be able to count 250 households in a month.

Twenty-one each will be deployed in 16 and 32 wards, the highest number of enumerators followed by 14 each in 6 and 31 wards. Twelve enumerators will be deployed in 15 ward, 11 in 14 ward, 10 each in 4 and 7 wards.

Similarly, nine each will be deputed in 26 and 13 wards, eight each in 3, 9 and 10 wards.  There are a total of 32 wards in the Kathmandu metropolis.
