A French citizen died on Mt Makalu, the world's fifth highest peak, the organizers said on Wednesday, the second fatality of this year's spring climbing season.
Johnny Saliba, 60, died at an altitude of 8,350 meters situated in Sankhuwasabha, during his summit push on Wednesday.
Saliba fell sick when he reached an altitude of 8,350 meters in Makalu Rural Municipality-2, according to Police Inspector Ram Kumar Lamichhane of the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha.
Saliba breathed his last at 3 pm on Wednesday while being brought down after rescue, said Lamichhane.
The condition of other French climbers who had gone along with Saliba is normal. Preparations are underway to airlift Saliba's body to Kathmandu, said Bodh Raj Bhandari, Managing Director of Snowy Horizon Treks and Expedition.
The incident site is 12 days' trek from Khandbari, the distruct headquarters of Sankhuwasabha district.
Earlier, a week ago, climber Lhakpa Tenji Sherpa,54, of Solukhumbu died while returning after scaling Mt Makalu.
