As many as 612 climbers have received permits for climbing various mountain peaks including Mt Everest in Nepal this spring.
According to the Department of Tourism, 612 climbers from 68 groups have taken permits to scale mountains including Mt Everest this spring.
Of them, 468 are males and 134 are females.
According to Rakesh Gurung, the director at the Adventure Tourism and Mountaineering Branch, 274 climbers from 46 countries have taken permits to climb Mt Everest. Of them, 221 are males while 53 are females.
Around this time last year, 478 climbers had taken permits to scale the highest peak of the world.
The highest number to climb Mt Everest is from America with 59 climbers followed by China with 38, Japan (19), India (17), Russia (16) while 15 climbers are the United Kingdom, the Department has said.
The second highest number of climbers after Everest is Ama Dablam, for which 80 climbers including 63 males and 17 females representing seven groups have obtained permits.
Similarly, 45 climbers have obtained permits to scale Makalu, Lohtse (40) while 25 have received permits to scale Annapurna I.
The government has collected Rs 39.12 million in royalty for climbing Everest. A total of 437 million 875 thousand and 059 rupees in royalty has been collected through the permits awarded for climbing mountains this spring.
