Supreme Court (SC) of Nepal has issued an order to retain seven defendants including former Deputy Prime Minister and UML Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi in the prison in the high-profile fake Bhutanese refugee case.
The SC decided to retain the defendants in the prison endorsing the decision of the High Court and District Court.
Hearing the writ petition on Thursday, a joint bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Tek Prasad Dhungana retained former DPM Rayamajhi and secretary at the Government of Nepal, Tek Narayan Pandey in the prison and ordered the release of some defendants.
Similarly, Keshav Prasad Dulal, Sandesh Sharma, Sagar Rai, Dr Indrajit Rai and Sanu Bhandari will remain in the prison, according to the verdict.
Likewise, the apex court has ordered the release of former lawmaker Angtawa Sherpa and mediator Govinda Chaudhary on bail. The court has sought a bail of Rs 3 million from Sherpa and Rs 1 million from Chaudhary, according to the verdict.
