TU professor killed as bus turns turtle in Kirtipur

A professor associated with Tribhuvan University (TU) has died in a bus accident in Kirtipur on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, Dr Govinda Rijal, the professor at the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, TU, died when a bus, Ba 3 Kha 2027, plying the Ratnapark-Kirtipur route, turned turtle in Kirtipur.

The bus met with an accident after it went out of control when the driver tried to swerve to avoid a scooter that suddenly emerged from Ayurveda Hospital, eyewitnesses said.

Critically injured Rijal breathed his last in the course of treatment at Kirtipur Hospital.

Three people sustained injuries in the accident. They are 24-year-old Dambar Panta, Bimala Shrestha and bus driver Ramesh Lama, 27, of Baitadi.

They are undergoing treatment at National Trauma Center.
