A man has tried to self-immolate after dousing himself in petrol in Chabahil.
The man set a fire to himself over a minor dispute he had with his wife on Tuesday night, the police said.
According to police, four members of his family – wife and three daughters -- also sustained injuries while trying to extinguish the fire.
“Chanchal Bahadur Singh, 55, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-7, Chahabil, tried to self-immolate by sprinkling petrol on his body and in the room around 9:45 pm yesterday,” SP Nawaraj Adhikari, spokesperson of Katmandu District Police Range, told Nepalkhabar.
Singh was heavily drunk and had a dispute with his wife before he set a fire to himself, according to Adhikari.
The other injured are Singh's wife, Bindu, 44, his eldest daughter Supriya, 24, second eldest daughter Samriddhi, 16, and youngest daughter Suhani, 8.
The condition of Supriya, Samriddhi and Suhani is critical, doctors have said. All the five injured are receiving treatment at Kirtipur Hospital.
Police said they are carrying out further investigation into the case.
