LDC Chief Planning Engineer Bhattarai jailed for six years in graft case

The chief planning engineer of the Lumbini Development Council (LDC), Saroj Bhattarai, has been sentenced to six years in jail on the charge of bleeding state coffer dry.

Hearing on the case filed against Bhattarai, a bench of chairman of Special Court Tek Narayan Kunwar, and member duo Tej Narayan Singh Rai and Ritendra Thapa found him guilty in the corruption case.

According to an investigation carried out by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Chief Engineer Bhattarai took a bribe of Rs 8 million from the contractor of the Council and invested it in the procurement of land plots.  

With the bribe money, he procured two plots of land (Two ropanis, 11 anas and 3 paisas) in previous Gundu VDC-3 of Bhaktapur district, according to the anti-graft body. 

The Special Court has determined that the land was procured with the bribe money he took from the contractor of the construction company of the LDC.
